The Ep-iT nocturnal Epilepsy support systems are based around two monitors. The entry level Companion is ideal for use at home or in care facilities to detect possible seizures that feature a strong presentation (e.g. Tonic/Clonic, Sounds, Vomiting or Incontinence). The Guardian is used by many professionals due to its flexibility, and the additional capability to monitor breathing as a protection from SUDEP or Statial or Partial type seizures. We personalise each monitor with the sensors required based on personal needs (see assessment chart).
Alert-iT offer the most comprehensive range of notification methods available. There are methods to suit domestic care (where the user and carer live together), care for those living alone or professional care.

Ep-iT Companion Monitor
The Companion Monitor is ideal for support of Tonic/Clonic seizures as well as situation that manifest sounds, vomiting or incontinence. It can also warn of possible danger if the user gets out of bed, or stays out too long. It is perfect for domestic use.
Bed Movement detection uses a highly sensitive sensor under the mattress to analyse the frequency of movement and activate an alarm if the movement is too long and frequent.
The Sound Sensor* is a special microphone to detect sharp gasps, clicks or groans. The device however is insensitive to background noise such as talking, TVs, radios or vacuums. Alternatively sound level can be used for those who make continuous noises during distress.
The Enuresis Sensor* (vomit or urination) is a comfortable thin cotton sheet placed on a mattress or pillow with embedded silver wires to detect moisture from urination or vomit. The sheet does not induce sweating, like plastic, and hence reduces sores and false alarms.
During Bed Vacation* the monitor can be set to give either an immediate alarm when the occupant leaves the bed, or only an alarm if the bed is vacant too long (which may indicate a collapse in the room). The normal sensor is a pressure mat on top of the mattress but a range of other techniques are available for all client and mattress types.
It is also possible to fit a Nurse Call Button to the unit for bed ridden clients to call for assistance.

Ep-iT Guardian Monitor

In addition it can monitor breathing and warn if there is cessation or abnormal breathing rates. It is used by many professional care, respite and educational facilities because of its highly adaptable operation. It is equally perfect for domestic use where there are complex seizure patterns.
Breathing and Bed Movement detection uses the same highly sensitive sensor under the mattress is used to analyse the size & frequency of movement to sense breathing or movement. An alarm is raised if the movement indicates a breathing problem or gross seizure movements.

Badge-iT Fall Detector for Drop Seizures
The Badge-iT is designed to alert care staff should the wearer collapse or press the panic call button. It has been applied most successfully to protect those with Epilepsy who live alone or in flats with on-site care staff.
The small Badge-iT contains a fall detecting component and can be attached to belt or clothing or placed in a pocket during the day for protection against dropping in a seizure. In the evening it is often held in the hand while the user relaxes watching TV etc. If a seizure begins then the user throws it or naturally drops it to raise an alarm.

Suitability
Domestic carers
Domestic carers (and smaller care homes) usually require that the alarm is notified to our totally portable pager, which features failsafe technology and usually sufficient range to cover house and garden.
The domestic pager works with up to three different monitors and automatically prioritises the alarms according tom severity. The 450m outdoor range is the longest available and coupled with the failsafe “Safelink” signals it will never leave the user unprotected. The pager is specially designed for care use and is simple and easy to use offering audible & silent operation (with vibrate)
Living alone
For those living alone we can offer a telephone dialler that can alert a local carer or more advanced diallers that can also access call-centres for support.
Our basic dialler is low cost and has no monthly charges. It simply dials a sequence of numbers until the call is acknowledged and passes an audible message to the recipient. In the meantime the user is given an assurance tune to confirm the dialling activity. The more advanced system uses a special control panel to dial both local carers and finally a call-centre. It features two-way speech for confirmation of assitance. The panel can also double as an intruder alarm system. We can similarly activate the call-centres associated with Telcare providers (such as local authorities, Tunstall or Tynetec).
Professionals and Care Homes
For the care professionals in residential homes, flat support, schools and colleges we can offer our pager with 32 client capacity and 450m range. Alternatively we can use long range licensed pagers or even send alerts through a DECT telephone system.
Our radio alarm network has the highest degree of reliability and integrity available. The failsafe "Safelink" protocol and long range (with repeaters if needed) ensures easy and secure installation without any expensive infrastructure or labour costs. To assist the professional we offer a risk assessment spreadsheet (with explanation and example sheets) to validate the acceptability of any installation and a client assessment form to help choose the correct monitor for their condition. We are also always on hand via our helpline.
Care Providers
The Alert-iT monitors are chosen by many councils, educational establishments, independent living providers and respite facilities as the basic protection for all kinds of conditions because of their diverse sensing capability and ease of programming. Our design team will be pleased to act as your consultant in defining the optimum assistive technology framework for your clients, into which our products can play a vital part.
iTs Designs was chosen in 2010 to provide a full Assistive Technology installation at three new builds in Leicester and one refurbishment in Nottingham. This included consultancy, provision, installation, training and support for not only the health monitoring but also Staff Attack, Telephone communications (speech and alarms) and Door Access control.
